The MSU Crop Diagnostic School offers you an opportunity to hone your field decision making and problem solving skills as you interact with MSU Extension Specialists in small groups while participating in hands-on field activities.

Nutrient Sampling Techniques

Learn how to properly collect plant tissue samples for nutrient analysis, evaluate foliar fertilizer injury and develop economic nitrogen and potassium recommendations.

 

Western Corn Rootworm

Chris DiFonzo, Entomologist  

Rate corn roots from plots treated with various corn rootworm control tactics including new biotech traits. Discuss the implications and limitations from these strategies and damage ratings.

 

Fungicidal Seed Treatments

Diane Brown-Rytlewski, Pathologis

Evaluate and compare six different fungicidal soybean seed treatments. Diagnose common seed and seedling diseases. 


Bioenergy Crops 101

Kurt Thelen, Agronomist  

Participants will identify potential bioenergy crops for Michigan and rank them based on several factors.

 

Herbicide Issues

Wesley Everman, Steve Gower & Christy Sprague, Weed Scientists  

Diagnose and solve problems that occur commonly from herbicide applications in  Michigan cropping systems.
