MSU 2007 Crop Diagnostic School

School Description

The MSU Crop Diagnostic School offers you an opportunity to hone your field decision making and problem solving skills as you interact with MSU Extension Specialists in small groups while participating in hands-on field activities.

School Details

Registration Details

  • Enrollment is limited to the first 150 participants, so pre-registration is required by July 2nd.
  • The cost is $125 per person and includes lunch, handouts, and other instructional materials.

Agenda

Nitrogen Management in Corn
  • Ron Gehl & Darryl Warncke, Soil Scientists
  • Learn about the effects of N source and placement relative to N loss.
  • Calculating N recommendations.
Switchgrass Establishment
  • Kurt Thelen, Agronomist & Christy Sprague, Weed Scientist
  • Evaluate seeding strategies including potential herbicide options for establishing stands of switchgrass.
Soybean Insects
  • Chris DiFonzo, Entomologist
  • Understand the longevity and impact of seed treatments on soybean insects.
Application Technologies
  • Helmut Spieser, Ag Engineer, OMAFRA, Ontario & Diane Brown-Rytlewski, Plant Pathologist
  • Learn how to match spray nozzles, pressure, spray volume and ground speed to effectively apply fungicides and insecticides to your soybeans.
Glyphosate-Resistant Crops
  • Steve Gower, Diagnostician & David Hillger, Weed Scientist
  • Diagnose potential issues associated with glyphosate-resistant crops.

The diagnostic school will be held on July 10 at 8:30 a.m. at the Plant Pathology Research Center at 3751 College Road between Forest and Jolly Roads.


From US-127
  • Take the Jolly Rd. exit (exit 11) to the stop light.
  • Turn left on Dunckel Rd. to Collins Rd.
  • Turn right on Collins Rd. to Jolly Rd.
  • Turn left on Jolly Rd. to College Rd.
  • Turn left on College Rd. to the Plant Pathology Research Center (*) on the left.

From other areas:
From Detroit: I-96 west to US-127 north to the Jolly Rd. exit.
From Flint: I-69 west to US-127 south to the Jolly Rd. exit.
From Grand Rapids: I-96 east to I-69 east to US-127 south to the Jolly Rd. exit.
